When you need social media support but aren't sure where to start, look to the experts from the National Institute for Social Media. These pre-defined projects help to accomplish strategic initiatives for using social at your organization and can be completed by highly motivated college students and recent grads.

The projects below have been created and approved by the National Institute for Social Media, the industry leading standard for social media certification.

Social media content calendar

  Create a social media content calendar with three posts per day. These posts should be a mix of industry news, thought leadership, and promotional material. In addition, please identify ten influencers based upon their following and shared interests in which we should connect and interact with. Students pursuing their SMS certification are preferred, but not required.

Social media content creation

  Develop ten short social media posts that we can post to drive interest in one or more (pre-determined) products, events, or services. Each of these should be adjusted appropriately for our accounts on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Use of Canva or other image creation software may be required. Students pursuing their SMS certification are preferred, but not required.

Developing a social media campaign

 

Develop a brief strategy to promote interest in (our product, upcoming event, new offer, etc.). Will include creating content for the campaign, setting goals, choosing platforms for campaign, and reporting on outcomes. In addition, interaction with third parties, as appropriate. Students pursuing their SMS certification are preferred, but not required.

Researching social media and PR efforts of competitors and providing recommendations 

  Evaluate the social media and PR efforts of competitors including presence on social media, recent press, and recent press releases. Provide a summary of your findings and recommendations for us to follow, including targeted customers, potential partners / advocates, suggested messaging, etc. Students pursuing their SMS certification are preferred, but not required.

Create/update a social media policy

  Evaluate current social media policy or climate and culture for a new policy. Work with the executive team to update or create a policy that can be shared with employees and stakeholders. Conduct any necessary training or create strategy for policy training and roll out to our organization. Students pursuing their SMS certification are preferred, but not required.

Create/update a crisis management plan

  Create a triage outline, including who should respond, who should be updated, as well as internal and external follow up strategies for crisis management. Already have a crisis management plan in place? Let us help you review and update it to stay current with platforms and company guidelines. Students pursuing their SMS certification are preferred, but not required.

Identify customer service opportunities via social media

  Implement strategic social media listening procedures to identify opportunities to resolve issues before they become problematic. Conduct a social media listening audit and provide recommendations on a strategy we could implement moving forward. Students pursuing their SMS certification are preferred, but not required.
