Step 1: Fill in important details about yourself.

It is recommended (but not required) that you upload a picture of yourself. Drag your photo to the box as noted by the arrow below or CLICK TO BROWSE to choose a file saved on your computer.  Crop your photo as you wish.

Tip for Success: Use a professional photo of yourself.  Companies using the Parker Dewey site will be able to see your picture if you apply for their project.

Complete the remaining questions in this section.  The email address you provide is how Parker Dewey and/or a company will communicate with you about opportunities posted on the platform.  Be sure to use an email address that you check regularly.

Tip for Success: If you are an international student, be sure to check the box as noted in the image below.  This will help make sure you receive important information about international students' eligibility to apply for Micro-Internship opportunities.

Student Profile - Locations

You will be asked to provide both a Hometown and a Current Location.  This can be helpful to prospective employers who may want to connect with talent who are either from or live close to their organization.  Keep in mind that many organizations use Micro-Internships as a way to identify talent for future opportunities (including internships and full-time roles), so this information can be really important for these organizations to know.


Step 2: Complete the "About" section.

Draft a concise personal statement which will be visible to companies if you apply to projects that they post on the Parker Dewey platform.  

Also select Hobbies and other interests.  Click "Add" to add as many hobbies as you wish.

Tip for Success: Keep in mind that companies will be able to see all of this information if you choose to apply to one of their projects.  Adding hobbies and other interests can be a nice way to differentiate yourself, but keep it professional!

Tip for Success: You can update your profile at any time to add to this list of certifications.

Choose affiliations that are relevant.  This list is based on nonprofit organizations with whom Parker Dewey has partnerships, but you can also add general categories like "Student-athlete" or "Honors student."  

Tip for Success: Companies frequently like to hire students based on affiliations like this.  Be sure to add any that are relevant to you as this can help you to stand out to some of these companies!

Complete your list of skills and other interests.  You can choose to add as many of these as you wish by clicking ADD after each item.

Tip for Success: The Skills section is particularly important (and visible) to companies.  Be sure to list all skills that are relevant to the types of projects that interest you.  Examples of these might be computer software, social media, specific research areas, etc.

Indicate your availability for other types of work.

Tip for Success: Many companies use Micro-Internships as a way to identify talent for longer-term opportunities.  If you are open to internships, full-time jobs, and other longer-term opportunities, indicate this here.

If you are comfortable sharing links to a personal website, portfolio, Twitter handle, and/or LinkedIn account, add that here.  Be sure to only link those accounts that are professional.

Tip for Success: Many projects on the Parker Dewey platform involve some familiarity with social media and other web design.  Having links in this section is really important if you are interested in these types of opportunities.

After you are done filling out the page, click SAVE and then complete the next section: Experience.   


Step 3: Complete the "Experience" section.

This section will contain all of the experiences you wish to share with prospective companies such as:

  • Internships
  • Full-time or part-time jobs
  • Extracurricular activities
  • Athletics
  • Community service

Click ADD POSITION and complete the information about each role you wish to include.  Be sure to complete each section:

  • Type in the name of the organization where you completed your experience and the title of your role
  • Type in the location of where you worked
  • Select your Start Date and your End Date 
  • Provide a brief description of the role and type of work you completed

Tip for Success: Include all experiences that you wish to share with a prospective employer that may show experience that's relevant to the projects to which you are applying.  This can help you stand out!

After you are done filling out the page, click SAVE.  If you wish to add an additional position, click ADD POSITION.  Positions will be added so that the most recent job is listed at the top of your profile.

When you are finished, click on the next section: Education. 


Step 4: Complete the "Education" section.

Click ADD EDUCATION and complete the information about the degree you are currently pursuing or just completed.  Be sure to complete each section:

  • Type in the name of the university.  If you do not see your university, email us at Schools@parkerdewey.com so that it can be added to the list.
  • Select your Start Date and your Graduation Date (or when you expect to graduate...you can change this later if your plans change).
  • Type in the name of your Major and select ADD.  If you have more than one major, add your other(s) as well.
  • Select the type of degree you are pursuing or received most recently.
  • Include your GPA if you wish.  This will be visible to companies if you apply to their project(s), but companies are not able to filter applicants based on GPA.

Tip for Success: Complete this section as thoroughly as possible.  It is extremely helpful to a company to know what you're studying, how soon you expect to graduate, and the degree you are pursuing (or received).

After you are done filling out the page, click SAVE.  If you have received another degree, click ADD EDUCATION to add that degree to your Parker Dewey profile.

When you are finished, click on the next section: Resume/CV.   


Step 5: Upload your "Resume/CV."

If you wish, upload a PDF version of the most recent version of your resume/CV. Drag your document to the box as noted by the arrow below or CLICK TO BROWSE to choose a file saved on your computer.

Tip for Success: You can only upload one resume to your Parker Dewey profile, so be sure to choose one that might appeal to the variety of projects to which you may apply.  You can always upload a new resume at a later time.

After you are done filling out the page, click SAVE and then complete the next section: Documents.   


Step 6: Upload "Documents."

If you wish, upload samples of your work and other documents that you wish to share with prospective companies. Only upload documents in the following file types:

  • PDF
  • PNG
  • JPEG

Drag your document(s) to the box as noted by the arrow below or CLICK TO BROWSE to choose a file saved on your computer.  You can upload multiple documents if you wish.

The document size limit is 7.5MB.

Tip for Success: Work samples are a great way to showcase your writing skills and other relevant expertise.  Career Launchers who upload samples of their work are more likely to be selected for projects.

After you are done filling out the page, click SAVE and then complete the last section: Demographics.   

 


Step 7: Complete the "Demographics" section.

This section is completely optional and only used internally by the Parker Dewey team.  Completing this section will not impact your ability to be selected for a Micro-Internship in any way.
