You will find out that you've been selected for a project via an email like this:

You will receive a point of contact from the company in this email (your Project Supervisor).  You will also have a point of contact from Parker Dewey.  We're here 24/7 to help as needed.


Once you receive this email, here's what you need to do next:

  1. Email the Client Point of Contact listed in this email as soon as possible. Introduce yourself and request to meet so that you can clarify his/her expectations. You can meet via phone, Zoom, etc. based on what works best for you and the Project Supervisor.
  2. Complete and return all Project Kickoff documents as soon as possible and submit the project overview. Send this to Accounting@parkerdewey.com
  3. When you meet with the Project Supervisor, be sure to clarify the following:
    • Scope of work: This will vary by project, but clarify details like do they want a 1,000 word article or 1,200?  What specific datasets should you use for your analysis?  
    • Communication: How would the Project Supervisor prefer that you contact him/her if you have questions?  Email?  Phone?  Consider scheduling a mid-project check-in.
    • Other Points of Contact: Are there other members of the company with whom you need to work in order to get this project done?  If so, ask the Project Supervisor to introduce you.
    • How do they want you to submit your finished product: Via email? What kind of file do they want (.doc, PDF, etc.)?
    • What deadline(s) do you need to follow: Confirm both the final deadline and if they want to see a portion of the project at any point before this final deadline.

Success Tip: Plan to connect with the Project Supervisor when you are about half-way done with the project to make sure that you are on the right track.  You can schedule a meeting or check in via email. Provide a sample of the work, clarify his/her expectations, and ask questions (as needed).  


You're not alone!  Use your resources!

Completing a project like this is a great opportunity to showcase your ability to complete professional-level work independently, and you should try to use available resources to overcome any hiccup.  Ask for help if needed! Here are some resources available to you:

  • Faculty: If you have taken a class that was relevant to your Micro-Internship, reach out to the professor from that class to ask for his/her advice.  This can be a great way to stay connected to a professor who may have some helpful insights to share.
  • Mentors: Many universities offer platforms and other resources to help you connect to alumni.  These alumni are often experts in their fields who want to give back to current students.  Reach out to your university Career Services or Alumni Association to see what mentoring services are available.
  • Parker Dewey Resources: Click on the Career Launchers tab to view Micro-Lessons, tips from previous Career Launchers, and other resources to help you complete some of our most common projects.
  • Parker Dewey Client Success Team: Reach out to support@parkerdewey.com at any time if you have questions.
  • Project Supervisor: Yes, you can (and should) reach out to the Project Supervisor if you have questions.  He/she will likely be impressed by your perseverance in figuring things out on your own, but if you need help, ask!
